Summary

Paraty is a historic coastal town in Brazil, between forested mountains and island waters. Streets and buildings preserve a port connected with trade and the routes through the surrounding landscape.

The town gains depth from its setting. Maritime connections and inland ground explain its former role, while the relationship between built streets and natural surroundings makes the place visually distinctive.
