Summary

Diamantina is a historic mining town in Brazil, with streets and buildings associated with the diamond economy. Its architecture occupies rugged mountain terrain, connecting the town’s form with the region’s resources and labour.

The relationship between wealth and setting gives it depth. A coherent streetscape reveals a particular mining history within a landscape that remains visibly different from a flat planned city.
