Summary

Samburu National Reserve is a wildlife landscape in northern Kenya, centred on the Ewaso Ng’iro River. Dry-country habitats support animals and birds whose adaptations differ from those of more familiar open-grassland environments.

The river has exceptional importance within the surrounding arid country. The contrast between green river edges and drier surrounding ground makes ecological connections especially clear.
