Summary

Paracas National Reserve protects desert and marine environments on Peru’s Pacific coast. Coloured cliffs, headlands and exposed shores meet waters rich in wildlife, creating a sharp contrast between dry land and living ocean.

That contrast gives the reserve its character. Bare coastal forms make the geology clear, while the surrounding marine life reveals how an arid landscape can border an exceptionally productive sea.

Getting there

From the Panamericana Sur, turn towards Paracas and enter the reserve through the Santo Domingo checkpoint. Arrange a vehicle circuit for the desert coast; the Ballestas Islands boat trip is a separate outing.

Plan ahead

Purchase reserve admission at the authorised checkpoint and arrange the coastal transport you need. If adding Ballestas, book the boat separately and allow for departures affected by sea conditions.

Paracas National Reserve is a protected area in the region of Ica, Peru and protects desert and marine ecosystems for their conservation and sustainable use. There are also archaeological remains of the Paracas culture inside the reserve.
