Summary

Colca Canyon is a deep river valley in southern Peru, with steep slopes, villages and cultivated terraces. The inhabited landscape and its bird life add several dimensions to the canyon’s natural scale.

Geological drama meets sustained human use throughout this immense valley. Terraces and settlements give a measure of the immense terrain, making the valley more revealing than a distant viewpoint alone.
