Summary

Antigua’s Naval Dockyard is a historic complex at English Harbour in Antigua and Barbuda. Restored naval buildings and a sheltered coastal setting preserve evidence of Caribbean maritime activity and colonial defence.

The harbour explains the architecture. Working spaces and protected water show how a naval base functioned, giving the beautiful setting a history of labour and imperial power.

For the curious reader

History, landscape and context.

Nelson's Dockyard is a cultural heritage site and marina in English Harbour, located in Saint Paul on the Caribbean island of Antigua, in Antigua and Barbuda. It is the only continuously working Georgian era dockyard in the world. It was built in the early 18th century and abandoned by the British Royal Navy in 1889.
