The story of a place
A port city told through squares, arcades and fortifications
Old Havana has the complexity of a city that has repeatedly reinvented itself around its harbour. Fortifications speak of strategic importance; arcaded houses and courtyards reveal another scale of urban life. The architectural ensemble rewards wandering, but also a little historical context.
Treat the district as a lived place. Restoration, daily work, tourism and buildings in very different states of repair coexist. A beautiful façade is one part of the story, and a visitor gains more by spending time in a few connected streets than by searching only for recognisable cars and postcard views.

The essential experience
Make time for this.

Old Havana (Spanish: La Habana Vieja) is the city-centre (downtown) and one of the 15 municipalities (or boroughs) forming Havana, Cuba. It has the second highest population density in the city and contains the core of the original city of Havana. The positions of the original Walls of Havana are the modern boundaries of Old Havana.
