Allow time

Choose a base

Gatlinburg, Townsend or Cherokee

Getting there

Use Gatlinburg or Townsend on the Tennessee side, or Cherokee on the North Carolina side. Choose the gateway for your trail or valley; mountain roads make cross-park transfers slower than a map may suggest.

Plan ahead

Obtain a parking tag for stops longer than 15 minutes. There is no timed-entry system, but all campgrounds require reservations and backcountry camping has separate permit arrangements.
