An extra night buys more than another item on an itinerary. It can create a quieter morning, a second chance at a view or the freedom to explore without luggage and a departure time in mind.
Identify what the night changes
Be specific. Does it add a full day, an evening or only a few hours? A late arrival followed by an early departure gives a different result from two unhurried mornings. Compare the real schedule rather than the number of hotel nights alone.
Give the additional time a purpose
Choose something that suits a longer stay: a neighbourhood walk, a second part of a broad landscape or time for a museum. Leave some of the benefit unallocated. Flexibility is one of the things the extra night provides.

Compare the alternative
Every extra night comes from somewhere in the trip. Consider whether it would improve another destination more. The most useful comparison explains what is gained and what is omitted in each version.
Make room to return
You do not need to solve every destination in one visit. A satisfying first encounter can lead to a later journey with different interests. A personal wonders list can record that developing relationship rather than treating each place as finished.
