Summary

Kruger National Park is a large protected wildlife landscape in northeastern South Africa. Rivers, grassland and woodland support a wide range of mammals, birds and smaller species across different habitats.

Its strength is the opportunity to understand wildlife within a varied ecosystem. Repeated encounters across changing terrain reveal more than a checklist of celebrated animals, connecting behaviour with habitat and water.

The story of a place

A vast wildlife landscape best explored without rushing.

Kruger rewards repeated observation rather than a race to complete a species checklist. Rivers, woodland and open country support different encounters, and even a familiar road can change character between morning and afternoon.

The park is large enough for distance to dominate a poorly planned trip. Choose a manageable area and spend time learning its rhythms, with birds and smaller animals part of the experience.
