The story behind the picture

Let the island remain an island

Rapa Nui's monuments belong to a wider cultural landscape of coast, stone and settlement. Different groups of moai reward comparison, but their settings are also distinctive. Looking at quarry, platform and coastline together helps prevent the statues becoming isolated objects in a travel checklist.

Arrange access and local guiding around the current park system. Give the island enough days for its different areas and for weather to change the plan.
