The Registan's three madrasas form a conversation across an open space. Look at how each façade frames its entrance, then move closer to see the patterned surfaces. The square provides the distance needed to appreciate the ensemble; the details reward a second, slower encounter. Evening lighting gives another impression without replacing a daylight visit.
Allow time both for the square and for the interiors that are open during your visit. Samarkand's other major monuments belong in the wider plan too.
