The story of a place
An equatorial mountain range with extraordinary changes of vegetation.
The Rwenzori rise through forest, bog and high-altitude vegetation towards glaciated peaks. Their appeal lies as much in those ecological transitions as in reaching a summit.
This is a demanding mountain environment with persistent moisture and difficult ground. Routes on different sides of the range have different access and security conditions and must not be treated as interchangeable.

History, landscape
and context.
The Rwenzori (also known as the Ruwenzori, Rwenzururu or Rwenjura) are a range of mountains in eastern equatorial Africa, located on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The highest peak of the Ruwenzori reaches 5,109 metres (16,762 ft), and the range's upper regions are permanently snow-capped and glaciated. Rivers fed by mountain streams form one of the sources of the Nile.
